New event ADRENALINE, produced EquiCirque in London 16-18 November will be headlined by Lorenzo, the world famous “Flying Frenchman”. Lorenzo’s incredible show of 12 grey Lusitano horses has to be seen to be believed. Performed in the arena without bridle or saddle and including flying over jumps while standing on the back of his horses, the show relies entirely on the beautifully trained horses and the relationship and trust between them and Lorenzo.
Britain’s top event riders will be out in force at Pontispool Equine Sports Centre’s second affiliated event of the year on September 9 and 10. The Rotary Club will once again be manning the gates and all proceeds of the £5 per car entrance fee will be donated to the Children’s Hospice South West’s Its Childsplay appeal. Last year’s gate collection was for Shelter Box, and a temporary home was sent to the Congo as a direct result of donations on the gate. In May this year nearly £1500 was raised for Its Childsplay.
World Horse Welfare is going to announce their “biggest loser” amongst their Shetland ponies at this year’s Summer Extravaganza in Norfolk.
Over the past six weeks volunteers have been taking the Shetland ponies at Hall Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Snetterton for walks to keep them trim over the summer months. At the extravaganza’s educational corner, they will be weighed to see which pony has lost the most weight since the walks started. The charity’s vet and farrier will also be on hand in the educational corner to answer any questions from members of the public.
New midweek date for Nutwell Court Horse Trials
British Olympic team rider Mary King heads the entries at Nutwell Court Horse Trials which has a mid week date for the first ever time, in the hope it will attract more entries.
Scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday 4, the move was initiated by organiser John Colson who said that in previous years a clash with other equine activities meant the event was failing to attract the number of entries required to make it feasible.
Nunney International Horse Trials is the perfect event for less experienced rider/horse combinations, as well as offering questions for those with more miles under their belts.
Situated at Southfield Hose at Whatley near Frome, it’s a proper galloping track on good, well-established turf which is widely regarded as the best type of ground on which to run an event.
There’s a very good covering of grass which has a dense sward, offering that all important spring, and all courses will be aerated if necessary.
World Horse Welfare is giving you the chance to learn from a number of equine experts at our Spring Talk later this month.

Last year Tina Fletcher became the first lady rider to win the Hickstead Derby for 38 years. Next month, she hopes to become the first woman to win the most famous of showjumping classes on two consecutive occasions.
Tina’s Carpetright Derby winner, the quirky but talented Promised Land, has jumped in the class twice and is yet to have a single pole down – an incredible achievement considering there’s only been 53 clear rounds in the Derby since it was first run in 1961.
